The tech giant reinforces its commitment to promote the development of high-quality talent for a heathy and sustainable ICT ecosystem
Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. recently launched its annual “Seeds for the Future 2021” event in Bangkok to help talented university students broaden their horizons through hands-on training, immerse in cross-cultural workshops, and support the country’s ICT talent ecosystem development. H.E. Mr. Itthiphol Kunplome, Minister of Culture, presided over the opening ceremony and gave the opening address to distinguished guests and participants, emphasizing the importance of online learning platforms for cultural exchanges.
Initiated in Bangkok in 2008, Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s flagship global CSR program, with the aim to develop skilled, local ICT talent and bridge communication between countries and cultures. Consisting of practical training designed by industry experts, the annual program helps prepare young people for the future work landscape. Over the past decade, 10 qualified Thai students were given a chance to go on an ICT study trip to China, where they met fellow students from 125 countries and explored Huawei’s high-tech learning centers and facilities in Shenzhen and Beijing.
During the opening ceremony, alumni from the 2019 program shared about the skills they learned from the program and their experience in learning different cultures as well as the opportunity to share Thai culture such as Thai wedding ceremony to fellow students from other countries including Mauritius, Canada, Sweden. In addition, they also talked about what it is like to work with Huawei.
In his welcome remarks, H.E. Mr. Itthiphol Kunplome, Minister of Culture, stressed on the practical applications of advanced technology to pass on things that matter such as knowledge, history and culture. “The new normal has changed the way we do everything including communicating and learning. Among the government’s top priorities during the digital era are skills and workforce development. Thanks to technological advancement, remote education was made accessible, enabling learning around the world,” he said. “I’d like to express my appreciation to Huawei for always organizing inspiring events and creating a wonderful platform for ICT training. I believe the program will open new doors of opportunities for qualified university students,” he added.
“A digital future is within reach, with a strong need to cultivate digital talents. At Huawei, we firmly believe that a seed can grow into a big tree, a beautiful flower and a bright future. Through digital inclusion initiatives, we will keep closing the gap between knowledge learned in the classroom and the skills required by the industry and Thailand 4.0 blueprint. We are proud to see that Huawei Seeds for the Future program is firstly launched in Thailand in 2008, and we will continue to develop ICT professionals and fuel the development of local ICT industries under the mission of Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand.” said Abel Deng, Huawei Thailand CEO, during his opening address.
Through talent promotion programs such as Seeds for the Future, Huawei aims to close the gap between classroom knowledge and real-life skills. The tech company will continue to support and collaborate with the government to ensure sustainable economic and social development in Thailand.
