True Corporation Affirms its Stance as a Thai Tech Company, Stressing No Matter How Smart AI Is, It Must Be Used Ethically

with Respect for Human Rights, Transparency and Accountability.

In today’s fast-moving digital world powered by technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly playing a key role across business and society. With processing capabilities 200,000 times faster than the human brain, over 95% accuracy in diagnosing diseases, and the ability to support sustainability efforts such as combating climate change, AI holds great promise. However, AI is also a double-edged sword. Without ethical frameworks, it can lead to privacy violations, the spread of misinformation, and growing inequality driven by hidden biases in training data. True Corporation, as a technology-driven organization committed to ethical AI development, continues to uphold the importance of responsible AI use. Most recently, Mr. Montri Stapornkul, Head of Data Protection Division, True Corporation Plc., shared his perspective on this topic at the global stage of the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI (GFEAI) under the theme”Ethics at Risk: Navigating the AI Dilemma and the Tech Trap”. No matter how intelligent AI becomes, it must have a heart and respect human rights.

While we all admire the capabilities of AI, the key question remains: How can we harness its power while still upholding human dignity, rights, and values, without being swept away by the race for technological dominance? Amid the growing influence of AI in shaping our digital world, Mr. Montri remarked “Artificial Intelligence is a technology designed to be smart, fast, accurate, and capable of processing vast amounts of data efficiently. But at True Corporation, what we prioritize is having the right mechanisms in place to govern and audit AI to ensure it is deployed within clear frameworks and guided strictly by ethical principles.”

“AI is a technology closely tied to personal data protection. As an organization committed to good governance, True places strong emphasis on safeguarding customers’ personal data, a key dimension of human rights in the digital era. We adhere to the principle of ‘Privacy and Security by Design’, which ensures privacy is respected and customer data is protected from the outset of any system design. Every service involving personal data, especially those driven by AI, is assessed for potential impact to ensure responsible and secure use.”, Mr. Montri added.

4 Pillars for Ethical AI Development

True Corporation is committed to developing and deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly, guided by four key pillars which comprise:

  1. Transparency – Providing clear information and explanation
  2. Respect for Human Rights – Upholding dignity, privacy and individual freedoms
  3. Fairness and inclusion – Ensuring non-discriminatory and equitable outcomes
  4. Human-Centered Design – Prioritizing well-being, safety and accessibility

Cross-Border Collaboration to Advance AI Governance

How can regional organizations collaborate to design AI systems that support long-term sustainability? On this, Mr. Montri shared “Each region differs in terms of culture, social psychology, and perspectives on human rights. Therefore, the first priority is to create an inclusive design process that allows each region to contribute to shaping AI governance in a way that fits their unique context. This requires shared understanding and alignment of perspectives before genuine cross-border collaboration can take place. Most importantly, all AI development must adopt a human-centric approach where people remain at the core of how AI is designed, deployed, and governed. This ensures that AI is not only intelligent but also respects the full spectrum of human values.”

True Corporation is the first organization in Thailand to adopt a Responsible AI (RAI) policy based on the framework developed by the GSMA (Global System for Mobile Communications Association). The company has integrated the RAI Framework into its internal operations and established evaluation guidelines aligned with international standards. This ensures that AI is used in a safe, fair, and sustainable manner, in line with global best practices.

“An ethical framework is the foundation for using AI to create sustainable value. In a world where AI holds immense power, the absence of ethics is like driving a supercar without tire treads. It may seem fast, but it’s dangerously unpredictable. Ultimately, “Power Means Nothing without Control.”, Mr. Montri concluded.
