Huawei Digital Power, in collaboration with T?V Rheinland, has announced a major milestone for the Huawei LUNA2000-S1 residential energy storage system, which has successfully completed rigorous safety testing and received the highest-level “Safety Mark (Prime)” certification from T?V Rheinland. This marks the world’s first residential energy storage system to receive the highest-level Safety Mark certification, underscoring Huawei’s commitment to advancing safety standards for residential energy storage.
As a leading independent organization for testing, inspection, and certification, T?V Rheinland is widely recognized across the global new energy sector. With deep expertise in energy storage applications, its Safety Mark Prime, or Level 3, represents the highest level of its safety assessment framework. The certification requires energy storage systems to prevent thermal runaway propagation at the battery pack level and protect human safety under extreme scenarios, even in the event of passive ignition.
Withstands External Fire Exposure for Up to 20 Minutes Without Explosion
Huawei LUNA2000-S1 successfully withstood exposure to external fire for up to 20 minutes without explosion, demonstrating the system’s ability to effectively preventing the risk of secondary combustion or explosion.
Cell-level Thermal Runaway Non-Propagation
Under extreme conditions, including internal arcing and thermal runaway propagation, the system continues to achieve cell-level thermal runaway non-propagation without resulting in fire or explosion.
Enhanced Protection and Confidence for Homeowners
These capabilities help minimize potential risks to residents and property in the event of critical scenarios, providing greater confidence in residential energy storage and supporting the adoption of clean energy in everyday life with greater peace of mind.
Mr. Jack Zeng, President of Digital Power Business Department, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said “Safety is at the heart of Huawei’s energy solution development, particularly for energy storage systems deployed in homes. Receiving the highest-level Safety Mark Prime certification from T?V Rheinland for Huawei LUNA2000-S1 is another testament to our continued commitment to advancing safety standards and giving homeowners greater confidence in choosing clean energy technologies backed by the highest levels of safety.”
The highest-level Safety Mark Prime certification awarded by T?V Rheinland to Huawei LUNA2000-S1 marks another important milestone in advancing safety standards for residential energy storage. The achievement not only reinforces Huawei’s leadership in safety technology but also provides an important reference for raising safety standards to a higher level.
This milestone further demonstrates Huawei Digital Power’s commitment to developing intelligent energy solutions that combine performance, technology, and safety. Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to collaborate with T?V Rheinland and partners across the energy sector to advance comprehensive safety assessment frameworks for residential energy storage, raise safety standards for residential energy storage applications, and support the growth of a safer, higher-quality, and more sustainable residential energy storage sector worldwide.
